Paper or plastic?  Go ahead and skip both options.  Shopping bags are used for a limited time, but they can take life-times to decompose.  Our reusable market bags make it easy to BYOB for your shopping needs.

Eco-Glossary
Biodegradable: The process in which substances are broken down by other organisms.  A material that is biodegradable will eventually decompose and be reabsorbed by the environment.  Most organic waste, including paper and natural fibers, fit this description.

Composting
: Recycling organic household waste and yard trimmings creates a soil end-product called compost.  The key benefits of composting are that it reduces the amount of green waste going in to landfills and creates an excellent planting mulch.

Carbon Footprint
: A measure of the amount of carbon dioxide an individual or household produces through car emissions, electricity use, and fuel consumption.  The bigger the footprint, the greater the contribution to global warming.

Organic
: Plants or foodstuffs grown or raised without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, antibiotics, or growth hormones.  Products that can be produced organically include foods, fabrics, and gardening supplies, all of which must meet government requirements in order to be labeled organic.

Post-Consumer
: Something that is used and discarded by a consumer.  Purchasing recycled products made with post-consumer material is generally considered better for the environment as it is directly diverted from the waste stream and buying it supports local recycling programs.

Post-Industrial
: Also known as pre-consumer waste, it is the leftover material following the manufacturing process.

Recycle
: This is the process of taking materials that would be thrown away, most likely ending up in landfills, and instead, reusing them.  Recyclable materials are typically broken down in to their raw components and then made in to new products.  Recycling reduces landfill growth and the pollution caused by manufacturing new products.

Eco Friendly BagsRenewable
: A natural resource that is depleted at a slower rate than the rate at which is regenerates.  A resource must have a way of regenerating itself in order to qualify as renewable.

Re-Use
: To find a new function for an item that has outgrown its original use in an effort to reduce waste.

Solar Energy
: The use of radiant energy from the sun.

Sustainability
: To use a resource without depleting or permanently damaging it, allowing it to meet the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations.
